Membership & Committees
Academy-Sherman Park is proud to further involve our residents in our community-building and growth efforts. After attending our association meetings and familiarizing yourself with your strengths, consider applying to join one of the following committees:

Communications & Social Media Committee
The Communications/Social Media Committee handles our newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, social media presence, website updates, and more. In addition, the committee assists with printing, mailings, and distributing flyers for events. It also promotes and manages information related to ASPNA—for example, taking photographs at ASPNA-related events such as press conferences, ice cream socials, National Night Out, and others.

Beautification Committee
The Beautification Committee is involved in every aspect of creating and maintaining ASPNA’s welcoming public spaces. Members lead and engage neighborhood residents in ongoing projects such as planting flowers in pots, maintaining the neighborhood garden, and collaborating with the City Parks Department. The committee plans, promotes, and completes projects that help keep ASPNA blooming and vibrant. It also identifies and maintains relationships with partner organizations that support beautification efforts, including Brightside St. Louis, Gateway Greening, and others.

Safety & Security Committee
The Safety & Security Committee develops and implements public safety and awareness programs designed to inform and educate residents about crime prevention, fire safety, and overall community well-being. The committee engages with residents, stakeholders, and City officials to identify problem areas and actively work on solutions. It works closely with the 5th District Police Department and ASPNA neighbors to promote a safer community.

Planning, Housing & Development Committee
This committee addresses the evolving needs of ASPNA—a diverse and historic neighborhood. It identifies areas suitable for new housing while protecting the integrity of existing homes and culture, and explores opportunities for commercial or mixed-use development. The committee works to improve and protect open spaces and parks, engages with residents, collaborates with housing and policy experts, and regularly reports findings to the Board. It also organizes and educates neighbors to advocate for housing-related issues and resources.

Youth Council Committee
The Youth Council creates a welcoming space of respect, fun, and growth for neighborhood youth. It aims to inspire leadership, confidence, and active participation in the community. Open to youth ages 8 to 18, the council encourages young people to enjoy their neighborhood while learning valuable skills.

Trash & Debris Committee
This committee works with the Board, members, and neighbors to identify and address trash, dumping, and debris within ASPNA. It engages with stakeholders and City officials—such as the Neighborhood Stabilization Officer (NSO)—to escalate issues and develop solutions. The committee also identifies sources and behaviors contributing to the problem and leads community-based clean-up efforts.

Grant Writing Committee
The Grant Writing Committee plays a key role in funding ASPNA’s programs and vision. By working closely with the Board and other committees, it identifies neighborhood priorities—such as senior services, youth programs, beautification, and safety—and seeks out grants and resources to support these initiatives. This work helps make ASPNA a healthier, more vibrant, and better-connected community.
